49-year-old Mal Rose from Yateley recently left the RAF after a 30-year career.  During his time in the RAF Mal represented the RAF’s triathlon team and Team GB in his age group but this all changed on a sunny day in January 2016 when Mal was hit side-on by a car while on a training ride.  However Mal has not let this stop his love of sport and he recently returned from the Invictus Games with a gold medal in the 100m wheelchair track racing along with two silvers in the 200m and 400m respectively

Being confined every day to a wheelchair would be unimaginable for many, but it is a reality for some. Our customer Andy, an ex-British Army Veteran shares his inspiring story with us.

I'm Andy a 45-year-old Veteran of the British Army, I left in 98.I required back surgery on my L5-S1 (the disc which separates the lumbar spinal region from the sacrum) intervertebral disc in 2006 and used crutches to get around. With weight gain it trashed my shoulders (they aren't designed to do the things my hips did).
In Feb 2014 due to another old Army injury as I was coming down stairs using crutches my right shoulder dislocated and I bounced down the stairs severing my already weakened spinal cord at L5-S1.

It is estimated that one in five hospital inpatients has a Pressure Ulcer (Clark et al,2004) - this represents at least 20,000 hospital patients in the UK at any time. In the UK, around 400,000 individuals develop a new Pressure Ulcer annually. The cost to the NHS is high, primarily because prolonged hospital treatment is needed in serious cases and those at risk must be protected. The annual cost is in the range of £2.6 billion.
